Developed in concert with PerfoTec BV, the AmerFresh Packaging System uses latest R&D intelligence specific to fresh-cut vegetables and fruits, Amerplast high-performance film and printing technology and the Perfotec laser perforation system. It also works in complete synergy with fresh-cut packing equipment.
One of the key variables for fresher produce is the optimization of oxygen levels within the pack tailored for each type of vegetable and fruit. The AmerFresh Packaging System is designed to inhibit as much as possible the biochemical reactions in fresh produce through better packaging architecture, delivering fresh-cut vegetables and fruits with a longer life cycle. The PerfoTec technology enables individual measurement and tools for optimal oxygen respiration rates for each individual produce.

How it works?
Amerplast high-performance films and bags: Amerplast has developed a wide range of film options for fresh-cut vegetables and fruits, including PET, BOPP, PE and laminates adapting to various packaging methods and requirements such as form-fill-seal or deep drawn packaging. We also provide environmentally sustainable Green PE. Our laminates offer excellent film permeability, allowing an efficient mix of barrier and breathing properties. The films and laminates are stable and perform extremely well on-line at high speed, allowing customers to capture additional downstream value.
Perfotec advanced technology and software: The micro-perforation system developed by PerfoTec is a scientifically highly advanced and unique approach as it matches precisely the required oxygen level for each fresh-cut produce throughout its life cycle. PerfoTec’s method is patented.
1. The fast respiration meter measures respiration rates of fresh-cut vegetables and fruits during a four-hour period and takes into account seasonal variations.
2. The supplied AMAP software uses the respiration rate to calculate the required Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) and adjust laser perforation to match any variation in film thickness.
3. The Laser Perforation System precisely performs the micro perforation for ensuring the right balance of oxygen inside the pack.
4. An integrated camera inspects each micro perforation diameter and shape.

Despite best farming practices, cold chain and transportation infrastructures, food waste continues to be a significant issue from delivery to retail to consumption also in the developed world. The AmerFresh Packaging System can reduce waste by up to 50%. Our Green PE material reduces up to 2.15 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere for each ton produced (rf. LCA study by E4tech & LCA Works).
