Growth into a top packaging company

1952

Amerplast M. Suominen was founded in Tampere, Finland. The first products were plastic pants for diapers made in a two-room apartment.

1964

1964

Amerplast Suominen & Co moved to a new production facilities. The head office is still located at the same address. Amerplast developed a new durable wave-cut carrier bag, named the Iisi bag.

1971

1971

The company established a plant in Ikaalinen, Finland,  to manufacture Minigrip bags. The plant in Tampere was expanded and it focused on carrier bags and hygiene packaging.

1972

1972

The export of carrier bags to Sweden grew significantly and a sales office was established in Stockholm, Sweden.

1982-1983

1982-1983

Amerplast invested in plants in Finland (Kauhava and Nastola).

1986

1986

Amerplast Suominen & Co became a limited company and the name was changed to Amerplast Ltd..

1988

1988

Amerplast founded a factory through an acquisition in Norrköping, Sweden. Amerplast was acquired by Lassila & Tikanoja, and a major investment program began.

1994

1994

Amerplast established a sales office in St Petersburg, Russia.

1997

1997

Amerplast established a sales office in Warsaw, Poland.

1999

1999

A greenfield plant started production with two converting machines in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Poland. Amerplast invented the security bag for the transportation and storing of money and other valuables.

2001

2001

Demerger of Lassila & Tikanoja resulted in a new company, Suominen Corporation. Amerplast becomes known as Suominen Flexibles.

2006-2011

2006-2011

Production was centralized to Tampere and Ikaalinen in Finland, and to Grodzisk Mazowiecki in Poland.

2012

2012

Investment in laser perforation machine in Tampere, Finland. AmerLaser™ provides a wide range of solutions for easy-open features and air release.

2014

2014

Automatization investment in Tampere, Finland. Suominen Flexibles changed ownership when Suominen Corporation divested its flexible packaging business to Lonsdale Capital Partners and the MBI team. Company returned to its roots and changed its name back to Amerplast.
